Patchouli, once the scent of choice for hippies found at the Dead Show, has been revived in recent fragrances listed below. The rich and mossy scent of Patchouli oil mixed with florals allows a perfumes a light crisp scent, or a dusky elegance when mixed with other richly scented base notes.

“Patchouli is rich, mossy, and very versatile,” says Rodrigo Flores-Roux, senior perfumer for Givauden. It goes on “light and crisp” when mixed with rose in Kate Moss Kate or jasmine in Tom Ford White Patchouli. Combined with the amber in Shiseido Zen, the cinnamon in Fresh Patchouli Pure, or the sandalwood in Fendi Palazzo Shine, it turns “dusky, dry, and elegant.” -Liana Schoffner, Allure Magazine, December 2008.
